Lobby for Good is an independent, non-partisan public interest group strengthening democracy, transparency, and community voice across New Zealand. We use legal tools, public campaigns, and people power to hold councils and government agencies accountable and empower communities to lead.

Community voices are sidelined.
Transparency becomes optional.
Accountability? Almost impossible.
Why? Because the rules are stacked.
The public carries the risk.
Private players collect the reward.
We’re here to flip that script.
We’re changing the rules, so the system works for all of us, not just the few.
WHAT WE DO:
We use law, strategy, and people power to strengthen democracy, expose injustice, and put communities back at the centre of decision-making.
Investigate – We uncover what’s hidden in public documents, force transparency through legal requests, and reveal the truth behind closed doors.
Litigate – We challenge flawed decisions with strategic complaints, test cases, and legal reform when public protections break down.
Activate – We train local watchdogs, launch people-powered campaigns, and mobilise communities to hold councils and public institutions to account.
Because local democracy shouldn’t be something that happens to us.
It should be something we lead.
